Joe Camerlengo’s video for his Flaming Lips cover ‘Waiting for Superman’

Joe Camelengo is a dude.

He lives in Central Ohio. He plays in bands. (Like Van Dale).

He just uploaded this video

Watch it. Or read my reaction. Or do both.

Really fucking good. High production quality. FIFTEEN MONTHS of film footage.

The song is ‘Waiting for Superman’. Written by The Flaming Lips.

I’ve never heard the original.

If I did, I’ve since forgotten.

This is good. This is what I would listen to in 2005 in my crappy 1 bedroom apartment. Surrounded by PBR cans keyboards and sadness.

(Intense) Nostalgia (surrounds this song).

The mix is a multi-layered voice on top of a symphony of synths and keyboard sounds. The voice effect is reminiscent of the breakout hit ‘Hide and Seek’ by Imogen Heap.

The knowledge that this song came from Columbus makes me feel proud. This recording, this engineering work, this performance.

Simple keyboard drums, stark strings reminiscent of the better half of The White Album, glitched in Postal Service ways.

Proving that 2015 indeed will be a great year for all of us.
