One Step Closer – This Place You Know

With a burning sensation to create music which alerts the senses and breaks boundaries, One Step Closer dutifully plays with their hearts on their sleeves. The band craft hardcore songs that resonate profoundly with the aching hearts, the people lost in themselves, and those who feel mystified by this world. The music is one thing, and what a sound it is, blaring out like red alerts, but the emotion fundamentally tugs at the heartstrings and travels through the bloodstream of solace.

This Place You Know highlights emotion in a seamless fashion, an album honed and skilfully produced by a band on the warpath to find some sort of meaning. The world is in transition, on life support, and we all need to try to focus on the bigger, more refined picture. And One Step Closer as a collective, often, scream out anecdotes of pain so they can be heard fully.

The record is a bashful, truthful display of hope being battered around. But on the flip-side, there is some optimism triggering amidst the gloomy backdrop. And the songs signify rage and love, they do not fall by the wayside or cascade deeply into the undertow of nothingness; they stay with you for a long time.

I Feel So opens the record. Screams power on with astute guitar work adding bite. There is no let up. The chorus burns brightly. Home For The Night is a supercharged track biting deep. The guitar sequences are technical and do not stick to one rhythm. Screams ring out. Autumn yet again breaks the mould and spearheads trickery and emotionally tinged vocals. This makes for a volatile listen.

One Step Closer has developed an album not for the faint-hearted or the pop fanatic, but one for the people who feel comfortable in their own skin and like the fast pace of hardcore. This Place You Know delivers intensity at the highest level too, and that’s what the band set out to do, be courageous and real.
