Premiere: GROVES – “Dimes”

By Ryan G

I am being completely genuine when I say that GROVES may have released the most instantaneously enjoyable single I’ve heard this year. Favorite song? Can’t go that far. But holy moly – what an earworm.

The band has certainly come across my radar before. People in the Vesperteen camp have recommended them, but this band is about more than a word of mouth association with a rising act. Their music speaks for itself – especially in the increasingly saturated indie pop market. GROVES brings to the table some additional layers not normally heard in this pop paradigm. Fans of COIN, Flor, and Walk the Moon will definitely find things to like. However, “Dimes” is more than its musical relatives.

GROVES has succeeded in taking elements that I would traditionally consider dark yet arranging them into a very upbeat number that would lift moods in no time. The industry powers that be seem to agree that this is a talent of theirs, since the band’s first ever tour was with Culture Club. Actually, now that I think about it, “Karma Chameleon” is kind of a dark yet upbeat song too. Now the pairing makes sense!

Enjoy our premiere of “Dimes” below, then let us know what you think! This song is the first release off of a forthcoming EP.

GROVES can be found on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
