Preview: Central Ohio Loop Festival

Our writer Sandeep Sehbi has his hands in so much stuff I can’t fathom how he functions with such a cool head most of the time. His latest endeavor is the Central Ohio Loop Festival, via his booking entity Yawning Rabbit Booking.

He has found inspiration in looping events around the country over the past few years, developing a reputation in the underground scene in the US and beyond. He decided to spin his inspiration into action at the grass roots event space Wild Goose Creative.

The six hour event will be a nonstop stream of vibey performers. Here’s the list, with a relevant thought about each:

TIGR HORS: The project of the festival founder kicks things off. Glitchy electronica with spoken word poetry by the electic Alison Leckrone layered on top.

Ben Ahlteen: Psych musician extraordinaire, also known for slinging drinks at hipster hotspot Kafe Kerouac.

Mas Bagua: Dreamy psych that is a chill cousin of the extravaganza that is Electro Cult Circus.

Kate Westfall Music: Looping artist from an hour north of Columbus, coincidentally the stomping grounds of my dad’s side of the family. She’s been a mainstay in the region for a few years now. A alumna of both Worst Kept Secret Fest and Columbus Psych Fest.

Orie Rush: Anyone that ever worked in the same place of business as Cody from Narrow/Arrow has to be a good musician.

Jonathan Hape: One of the most prolific musicians in central Ohio. When he’s not laying down some complex time signature drum fills in Narrow/Arrow or fronting his cool protopunk project Room and Board, he’s doing this.

MIKE WHY: A cappella looping poppy goodness from Pittsburgh.

David Wong: Violin looping with a rock twist. I’m surprised I’ve never heard of this guy.

LethalFX: Looping + beatboxing + hip hop = awesome.

Field Sleeper: A solo performer that really likes The National, and also is really awesome at making coffee stuffs. Maybe him and Ben should team up with some other barista musicians around town for a show. Crikey! I think I just got an idea for a Tuned Up event.

This festival is also in conjunction with the Y2K looping festival that has around 2 decades worth of experience running, and the Peterson LLC loop festivals of the West and South.
