Tuned Up Portraits I: How you are coping with 2020 (part 1)
We asked you all (and a lot of bands) to tell us about a song that was helping them through the ups and downs of 2020 along with a photo of themselves. Here’s the first volume. Let us know in the comments what question you want to ask for the next series!
“Chris here, singer of Starwolf. The song that has helped me get through 2020 the most has been ‘Ladyfingers’ by Herb Alpert & Tijuana Brass. Seriously, it’s one of the most relaxing songs of all time. As soon as the melody kicks in, I feel like I’m transported to my own private island, or a secluded lake in the mountains. While 2020 has been the shittiest year for most of us, ‘Ladyfingers’ leaves me feeling warm and fuzzy, just like Meemaw’s apple pie.”
“I’m Gracie Carol, a Country Music Artist from Nashville, TN. ‘Dashboard Jesus’ by Carly Pearce has picked me up on my darkest days during the pandemic. I worked on a cruise ship as a country singer the beginning of this year, and when march came around, crew members weren’t able to leave the ship for 3 weeks. Let me tell you, it was so difficult to stay sane. It was then I listened to Carly’s new album Carly Pearce including the tune ‘Dashboard Jesus.’ This song reminded me no matter how tough times can be, all you need is faith and Jesus to get you through. It helped me when returning to land to keep being positive, keep dreaming, and keep reaching your goals. Which is why I feel like I am doing the best for myself this year than I ever have. It doesn’t matter where I travel, how far I’ll go, or if we are in a global pandemic, I will now always find my dashboard Jesus.”
Alex Magnan of @youngcultureny has enjoyed “Exile,” by @taylorswift, explaining “it kinda resparked my creativity when it was lacking.”
“The ‘song’ that has been helping me get through 2020 is the entire soundtrack of the game Celeste. Peaceful and energizing at the same time. Helps me think and sort out feelings and focus. It’s been so good. -Sara
“For me a song that has helped me this year is ‘The Signal Fire’ by Killswitch Engage. The energy of seeing both Jesse and Howard sharing a song gives me all the feels. We also have a new song called ‘Lullaby’ that helped me a lot this year! -Marco”
“Every morning I listen to ‘Every Morning’ by Sugar Ray. Off the charts but always in our hearts 🖤”” – Cam Knopp of @neverlovedmusic
