Melodic metal charges beyond the norm here, and it breaks down the barriers radiating bright colours. Our Hollow, Our Home is a band on the warpath trying to turn their fortunes around with their new album Burn In The Flood. The band is angry too, and this can be heard throughout the record, as screaming tension interweaves with harsh instrumentals that blow the mind. Instrumental brilliance has always been a mainstay in the band’s hardened world, but on Burn In The Flood it has been raised high and wide.
Yes, the screams can put people off, that inner rage can startle, but on the flip side the sound is compellingly original. When the bellows come into play, they add a certain sound that channels aggression, an aggression that confirms the band is challenging the status quo and silence. And breaking loose from the pack of bands that shelter under the same genre will only increase Our Hollow, Our Home’s chances of becoming a juggernaut.
Becoming a powerhouse band in the metal scene takes guts and talent. Our Hollow, Our Home has all the talent in the world. Their music stands up against the titans, the powerhouses, and that shows they are destined for longevity. Some bands falter, some bands disengage, but some barge through adversity with energy to spare. With Burn In The Flood, the act has formulated enough radical sounds to dodge the slide into nothingness.
Burn In The Flood starts off proceedings and engages straight away. Clean vocals start the ride into aggression, and then the screams implement a rage. The instrumentals are fast and volatile. “In Retrospect” turns the dial up notch, with screams and growls overtaking the clean vocals. It is an infectious melodic gem. “Better Daze” starts with clean vocals and some poppy elements have been integrated. This all changes when the screams come into play. The chorus blends with desperation and sorrow. “Overcast” pulls at the senses and the snappy instrumentals feature heavily, and lyrically the song tells bitter stories.
Our Hollow, Our Home has created a titan of a record. It is unapologetic and driven, showcasing an aggression that is needed now more so than ever.
