Audiofeed Artist Spotlight-Becoming The Archetype

Audiofeed Festival is coming up quickly, and 2023 marks the second year that Tuned Up will be hosting a stage. The weekend of July 1st through 4th in Urbana, Illinois will bring some of the best up and coming independent artists, along with several seasoned veterans and exciting reunions. To get you hyped for the fest, Tuned Up will be spotlighting artists playing our specially curated stage, hopefully introducing you to your next favorite band.

Audiofeed Artist Spotlight-Becoming the Archetype

At this point, Becoming the Archetype needs no introduction. This Christian progressive death band has been around for over 20 years. Last year they released the explosive Children of the Great Extinction, their first album since 2012’s I Am. It also heralded the return of Jason Wisdom and Brent Duckett, founding members who hadn’t recorded a BTA album since Celestial Completion. Children of the Great Extinction was everything fans of the band could hope for. And it is most definitely the best sci-fi themed progressive death album with Lion King inspired cover art that I’ve ever heard or will ever hear again! Now the band is on tour in support of the album, hitting up both Furnace Fest and Audiofeed Festival. Guitarist/Keyboardist/Clean Vocalist Seth Hecox was gracious enough to answer the questions the fans have come to expect from any self-respecting Audiofeed artist playing the Tuned Up Stage. So without further ado…

Describe BTA’s in 5 words:

Supernatural Body-Horror Celestial Metal

Could you name a song or two of yours that someone unfamiliar with your band could check out to get a sense of who you are?

Necrotizing Fasciitis, a single we released in 2009, and The Calling from our newest album would be good introductions to the band.

What is your approach to live performances and why should someone come see Becoming The Archetype at Audiofeed?

We are high energy mixed with #dadhumor and when people experience our live set, they usually *don’t* regret it, or so we’re told.

Which artists and/or albums who influenced your music would be carved in stone on your Mount Rushmore?

Extol – Undeceived

Opeth – Watershed

Living Sacrifice – Reborn

Weird Al – Greatest Hits

If you could have rider requests that HAD to be followed by venues and festivals, what would ABSOLUTELY be on it?

One festival used to have a masseuse. That was interesting. Usually hot food and cold drinks like kombucha are what we need to pull off our insane live set (complete with harpsichord and whatnot).

What kind of music does the band listen to in the van on the way to shows?

Garth Brooks-Greatest Hits

Weird Al-Straight Outta Lynwood

Enya-A Day Without Rain

Rage Against The Machine (any album)

Who are some other artists you’re looking forward to seeing at Audiofeed 2023?

My Epic will be a lot of fun. And some punk bands are high energy and always fun to jam to.

What are some future projects coming up for Becoming The Archetype?

Playing festivals for now in Europe, the American South, the Midwest, and the northeast. Eventually, a new album? In the meantime, dadjokes online.
