Deep AL Brindle Release Latest EP Late Night, Early Morning

Over the course of the past few years Tooth & Nail Records have signed several acts that don’t seem to fit the musical aesthetic that the label has been know for the past twenty plus years. However, that doesn’t mean that their artist selection is without talent.

Take Deep AL Brindle for example, comprised of friends/bandmates Alastair Wilson and Diego Castellanos whose approach is to create what feels good in the moment with no agenda. The pair strives to make the kind of art they want to experience.

Late Night, Early Morning is fun and airy release. Vocally/lyrically there isn’t much to work with, but the music creates an atmospheric product that showcases the duo’s appreciation for 80s pop. The full product is a solid project chock full of a vintage electronic sound. Clocking at just under 21 minutes across 5 tracks the somewhat short EP still allows the listener to immerse themselves in the atmosphere created.

“When Time Runs Out” kicks things off and elegantly weaves the atmosphere that will run seamlessly throughout the entire EP. It feels more like an elongated intro due to the lack of any real lyrical content but don’t let that dissuade you from traversing forward. “I.H.Y” follows and carries a bit of a Daft Punk vibe, if Daft Punk had done the Tron: Legacy soundtrack with lighter undertones and a dash of lyrical content. Some might find the Daft Punk comparison a bit of a stretch, but if you listen closely with a solid sound system you might find it in the intricacies of the track.

“Paradigm” is another solid instrumental track that almost serves as a bit of a bridge between the first and second half of the EP. It carries a constant/steady beat and the lighter nature of the first half while setting the stage for a more “serious” toned second half. “Prologue” feels to have a bit of a “darker” tone to it, but this is due to the usage of deeper tones on the track as a whole which paints a brilliant contrast against the first couple of tracks.

The EP closes out with “Out of Love” and features labelmates, KIDS. As the final track it is a nice bookend to the EP and is the most vocally driven with a simplistic lyricism. It would not be hard to imagine that this track was pulled right out of the 80s and placed in the modern era. While the 80s influence is strong it does not feel out of place in the present. This could be due to the 80s aesthetic making a big comeback in modern music or it could be because the duo have so beautifully crafted an EP that feels transcendent.

Late Night, Early Morning is available now on all major streaming platforms.
