Interview With Charly

I have always enjoyed finding new music. And it doesn’t matter how that comes to be. Over the past few years, one of the main ways I have come across new music is by writing for this blog, which I love. That’s how I came across this artist, Charly. I was asked if I would be down to interview her, and of course I said yes. So here it is. Enjoy!!!!!

TUNED UP: Can you tell our readers a little about your musical background?

Hi, my name is Charly. I am a songwriter, singer, composer, guitarist, and I also play a little bit of bass and keys. I have a band called Charly&Faust, and I now have a solo project. I just released my first solo EP called Awareness, and I finally started to perform this project on stage with Eric Reymond (Bass) and Coralie Hervé (Drums).

TUNED UP: Where in life do you find inspiration?

I used to find inspiration in things I was living. Especially hard stuff to handle. But for the last few years I am happy in my life, and I realize that I need to focus on something else than just myself. On this new EP I tried to talk about stuff I saw around me or in the news and that I still today don’t understand.

TUNED UP: Who are a few of your favorite musicians?

Janis Joplin, Pattie Smith, Anna Calvie, Kodaline, etc.

TUNED UP: In three words describe your music.

Rock, Folk, and friends

TUNED UP: If you were not doing music, what would you be doing?

Nothing! I mean I don’t have any other skills! When I doubt myself, I always say I should have become a dentist or something. But my friends always say “you would have killed somebody, music is the only thing you can do without endangering others” *laughs*.

TUNED UP: What is the music scene like in France?

It is actually a good question. I can’t really tell anymore. It has been more than 5 years now that I am based in LA. I would say for what I follow that there is a lot of emergent artists mixing deep French lyrics with EDM music. That sounds good!

TUNED UP: If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?

Anyone? P!nk? Lady Gaga? LP? … What? A girl can dream *wink*

TUNED UP: It’s about to be summer time, what is your favorite summer activity?

Walking on the beach with my dogs! Barbecue parties that start in the afternoon! But that is only a good excuse to drink early without feeling guilty.

TUNED UP: What is the best summertime album or song?

I have no idea… Oh, “Tout Nu Sur La Plage” by Les Trois Accords!

TUNED UP: Sweet Tea or Lemonade?

Lemonade without sugar!
