liotta seoul – worse

When the void gravitates towards you, the world turns ugly, and then you get consumed by darkness and your body is marked for a premature death. Thankfully, there’s a chance you can get pulled out of this frightening space, and try to reconstruct your life, though that would take an almighty step forward, and struggle. There’s this band, Liotta Seoul, that finds themselves nearing the abyss, the dark hub of travesty, and the only thing keeping them alive and sane, is music.

Though this music is negatively spun, it has charm. Those arresting guitars, and the other arrangements, are excellent. The band shout out for clarity too, through the lyrics, and they know hurt first hand. The melodies are accessible and brilliantly weaved, and at moments, they break boundaries. The words settle in like dust in a old house, but they shine, and they explain so much in terms of how the band feels and Worse is their statement.

The band hasn’t just churned these songs to see if they stick, they’ve actually been careful in their process. Won’t You Love Me starts the record off, and emotion tugs here, with those massive guitar lines adding intensity. Love and tragedy intertwine. Star offers loud vocals and burgeoning instrumentals, creating an atmospheric pull. The lyrics again are resounding when it comes to lost love. Medical Detectives are more abrasive, and it has some of the most well rounded and adept guitar strokes. Sins and dreams are explored in this song.

Liotta Seoul has designed a record of substance and sadness. Their ethos is clear, and the void, thankfully, hasn’t ransacked their souls.
