Phil Elverum of Mount Eerie and The Microphones Announces Songwriting Workshop

Phil Elverum announced “Music With Voice,”an online songwriting workshop through School of Song. The course will be taught online via live Zoom lectures across 4 consecutive Sundays – October 30th, November 6th, November 13th, and November 20th–– with 2 lecture sessions on each class day to accommodate different time zones: 11 AM PT and 6 PM PT. Recorded lectures will be available and sent out afterwards for those who are unable to attend synchronously.

Elverum will give a lecture and live Q&A on a subject specific to his songwriting process. Each class will result in a homework assignment to write a song using the techniques discussed in the lecture. In addition to the lectures, there will be weekly song-sharing sessions composed of peer review and an additional hour of live Q&A with Elverum.

Classes cost $120 total, and a 20% discount is available for those who sign up with a friend. The deadline to sign up is Sunday, October 23rd at 11:59 PM PST.

“This class starts with creating a space, an actual workspace but also a mind space. In this space we can notice what comes up on its own. If we do it right it will be messy and embarrassing. From this mess we’ll work on recognizing what floats, what could grow. The whole time I’ll be giving examples of ideas to consider from my own work and the work of others through history.”
