Trending Single Reviews: Audio Adrenaline, M83, Disciple

By Ryan G

Audio Adrenaline – “Kings and Queens”: OK, I like this song. I really do. But do not call this Audio Adrenaline. A supergroup this is, and a darn prolific one at that (Will McGuiness from Audio A? Kevin Max? ex-Superchic(k) guitarist?). I would be shocked if this string-laden anthem for the marginalized doesn’t rule over Christian CHR stations, and I’m sure the intentions of the band members are good. However, the Audio Adrenaline moniker being tacked onto this project is a blatant marketing move.

M83 – “Steve McQueen”: The third single and video from Hurry Up We’re Dreaming doesn’t quite carry the classic ambience of “Midnight City” or “Reunion” but it is still very much an enjoyable, albeit a tad predictable M83 song. When you get tired of listening to the first two singles on repeat (like I did) you’ll appreciate the deeper cuts from the album, like “Steve McQueen.” A breathless intro gets us soaring in a manner that seems underwhelming at first. I found this song to be more an acquired taste, but maybe one blast in surround sound is all it will take for you.

Disciple – “O God Save Us All”: This song is misleading at first. After the misstep that is “Draw the Line,” it is likely that old-school Disciple fans had very cautious optimism about the sound of the next single. At first, you are tempted to face-palm and groan, thinking “more of the same…” but then whoa! Some sick instrumentation, and an even more satisfying breakdown in the bridge! The song still sounds a bit imbalanced at times, but should redeem expectations of those listening to the record for the first time. Will it beat out Scars Remain? No. Is this a solid radio tune? Yes.
