It hasn’t gone unnoticed that Audiofeed seems to be taking a decidedly more indie direction this year. One of the highlights of the undercard is the folksy collective Edward & Jane. The namesake of the project are a married couple who came up with the moniker using their middle names.

I use the term “down to earth” a lot when describing folk music, perhaps to my detriment, but I’m going to apply it here yet again. Edward & Jane craft a sound that is just that, as well as generally approachable and lush. They have played around the country as both a duo and a full band, and while I haven’t personally seen them play as a duo, the chemistry is such that I have to imagine it’s just as on point as a full band. As someone who enjoys layered sounds, though, I really appreciated their new single, “Please Don’t Leave Me Like This.”

Tuned Up: Sum up the band’s sound like you’re describing your favorite beverage (hot or cold)

Edward & Jane: Edward + Jane is a refreshing burst of citrusy gold that will excite your eardrums and quench the harshest of thirsts from the second the first beat hits your stomach.

When’s the last time you were really gripped by a piece of music? Tell us about that.

Recently, we’ve found ourselves neck-deep in the A Deeper Understanding, the latest release by The War on Drugs. Each track seems new with each listen while simultaneously evoking a feeling of nostalgia. With washed out vocals, vibey synthesizer goodness, and 80s drum grooves bouncing back and forth throughout the record’s entirety, A Deeper Understanding is the perfect soundtrack to any late night drive with the top down.

What do you think of music fans using the term “stan” to describe being a superfan? I’m behind on Twitter lingo and still forming an opinion.

Honestly, don’t think I’ve ever come across the term. Maybe it’s because we rarely engage twitter, but is more likely that, as my younger siblings tend to say, “You are always behind the times.” If I had to give my opinion, it seems like Sufan (not to be confused with Sufjan) might be more fitting.

Who would you like to see play Audiofeed in the future?

Family & Friends mash-up with the Oh Hellos would smash Audiofeed 2019.

What’s a hobby you (or someone in your band) enjoys that would surprise people?

Our lead guitarist, Spencer Thomas Smith, is an avid mountain biker while our drummer, Jerome Obholz, enjoys a midnight (but actually like 3am) workout at Planet Fitness. A group hobby is that a few members of the band get “tour tattoos” together, typically one for each tour in a new city on the route.

How do you find out about new music?

Typically on Spotify’s “Discover Weekly” or “New Music Friday” playlists.

Do you have a favorite music festival memory? Tell us about it.

At Midpoint Music Festival in 2017 we had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Mandolin Orange. This was a humbling experience for us as we have looked up to them for quite some time. Emily and Andrew are the nicest people in the industry, not to mention some of the most incredible musicians we have ever seen live.

What’s something about your hometown you’d encourage travelers, whether or not they’re in a touring band, to take advantage of?

• Get outside (great hiking/bouldering in Chattanooga).
• Check out the North Shore in downtown (Coolidge Park area)
• Aretha Frankenstein’s has some of the best pancakes. You must check this fun place out.
