Trash Boat appear to be angry on their record Don’t You Feel Amazing?. The punk band try to silence unneeded voices and they try not to buckle under pressure, while providing a radical new sound. Their record is a different concept from their previous record, Crown Shyness, which was a sincere collection in its entirety. Many of those songs still ring true, the descriptions of debilitating mental health, the cracks in love, and the world weighing down painfully on young shoulders.
Now, through we go, to a new era for the band, an angry era, fueled on abrasive choruses. The band has certainly upped their game and have taken punk rock and fitted it with a new look and sound. The balance of quick fired riffs and breakneck percussion creates tension for the listener, like everything is going to explode. This feeling of being on the edge is certainly compelling.
Trash Boat means business. In fact, on every track hope feels legit but can veer off into a battleground of mistrust. Lyrically, the band has elevated their poetry to gold status too, with many of these songs relying on the words. The listener will also learn so much when focusing on the details. They may be shocked to the bone, but it’s all worth it.
Don’t You Feel Amazing? has many raucous tracks. “Silence Is Golden” is an intelligent slap of punk. Lead singer Tobi Duncan sings with vigor and intent, shooting his mouth off, and rallying a crowd and cause. The riff is a pleasing contrast. “Love Without Needing” is a catchy track, with Duncan searching for relevant meaning in a world beating itself to a pulp. The chorus is a high energy blast. “Vertigo” is brash, as the guitars push the limitations. Duncan again sings about being cut to the core. He feels like a ghost. “All I Can Never Be” offers rare subtlety and sentimental value. Duncan sounds slightly morose here, detailing his feelings vividly behind an acoustic guitar.
Trash Boat have updated their music on Don’t You Feel Amazing?. The sound is refreshing and loud, and an infusion we needed.
