Frank Turner – FTHC

Frank Turner has been around for what seems an age. The singer/songwriter is a punk rocker with an acoustic guitar as his element of creativity. With that being said, the musician is a lyricist of the highest order, designing words with his bespoke poetry, and rattling against the status quo, looking for answers to his most damning questions. Punk has been ingrained in Turner too, and it has grown like a plant in him, one red coloured and perfectly ascended.

Turner uses his poetic mind on his record FTHC, which is an album with a no nonsense approach. He doesn’t hold back for anyone, as the songs all trigger into action, conveying harsh anecdotes for all to read into. The musician has always been in the thick of it, dazzling with his astuteness and sharpness, playing live shows across the world, and putting out record after record of honest content.

FTHC goes along the same lines, not adhering to any particular template or style. It’s a mix of elements, from acoustic flair to sudden shifts of sadness. Turner has spent so much time on honing his talents and skills, that everything on this record sounds polished and clear. He sings about the world, politics, broken hearts and everything in between.

Non Serviam starts off the record. It’s a punk thrill, with Turner turning into a blockbuster vocalist, and the poetry is astounding here. Untainted Love explores drug use, and the crippling edge of death, and the riff appeals. He sings with extreme clarity here. A Wave Across The Bay is a testament to Turner’s brilliant lyrics, and the musician pays tribute to Frightened Rabbit’s Scott Hutchison. It’s a melodic heart-puller.

Frank Turner goes delivers a punk record with emotional underpinnings. The record blasts through so many moments, collecting the most important parts.
