Scottish band Vistas show their emotions on their EP, The Beautiful Nothing, and they propel through the pain and misfortune of love at times and then they descend back into dark places. The EP is a piece of artistry too, describing the band’s trials and tribulations, and their fears and promises are laid bare. Lyrically, the band is on top form, pleading with their own minds to release joy.
There’s no doubting Vistas talent as a trio. Their music could fit perfectly in the golden pastures, stadiums and arenas, because of its high intensity. The band also plays loud, and they let their music blossom even in the dark days, the days when everything is problematic, when nothing goes right, and the world becomes a land of broken promises.
The Beautiful Nothing isn’t gleaming in polish, it’s actually quite raw, and the trio has made the most revealing and complete record to date. The lyrics are poetic to the point where you’ll feel guided by them, totally immersed in their story and quality. Every chord works, every bass-line compliments, and every drumbeat shakes the spine. It’s that good.
One More Night With No One delivers intense vocals and instrumentals. Lyrically, love has been compromised, and the chorus describes breaking resolve and a date with disaster. Follow You Down opens with a clean bass-line and full throttled guitar lines, and the story keeps on going. The chorus is a raucous piece of rock music which evolves. The Beautiful Nothing is a pessimistic stab at rock, and the grooves and dynamic instrumentals flow well. Again, love has been smashed to pieces, and loneliness creeps in like a ghost.
Back Of The Car delivers a poetic masterclass, and it shows the words mean more than the world. Time flies and there is no way of repairing a relationship that has been battered too much.
Vistas have created a record brimming in sheer melancholy. Their style of music will resonate with many, and this EP might be dark, but it delights on so many levels.
