Topher Parks recommends: ENOVA
Last week I had the privilege of seeing Chevelle and Nothing More live at The Egyptian Room in Indianapolis. Consequently, as any excited concertgoer would, I tweeted quite a few different things about Chevelle in anticipation of their show. Without fail, every time soon after posting the tweet, it’d be favorited by an alternative rock band from Arizona called ENOVA. I normally find this kind of thing rather annoying, but I must have been in a particularly lenient mood that day, because earlier this week I gave them a shot. Needless to say, upon hearing “Hell (Is a Far Way Down),” I was extremely impressed with the band and their sound. Their influences, specifically Chevelle, but also Incubus and A Perfect Circle, definitely show through in their music. In fact, Chevelle and A Perfect Circle were the first two bands I thought of upon hearing “Hell.” While it’s not earth-shatteringly amazing, it’s definitely a great song that I find rather enjoyable. Keep your eyes peeled for the release of the band’s new EP, Dark Waters, which is coming soon.

Topbunk is a two piece emo band from Atlanta, GA. They have a sound that is akin to older emo bands such as Mineral and Sunny Day Real Estate. They have not been together that long but they have already played shows with scene favorites such as Dads, Tiny Moving Parts, Empire, Empire and Prawn. This is a band I would not sleep on at the moment. The passion that is coming from these guys is amazing.
