War of Change
War of Change is a Christian hard rock band based out of Dayton, Ohio. Their faith has always played a major role in their music. I was familiar with frontman Johnny Baxter’s music outlet from practically day one. I had actually thought about being the bass guitarist for his band, but I had other commitments that hindered me from auditioning. Now, after almost two years and several lineup changes, the hard rockers are finally picking up steam, with their debut EP Human Condition slated for release on July 1st. The core of the band, Baxter along with drummer Mick Blankenship, have been influenced by the likes of Alice in Chains, Sevendust, and Thousand Foot Krutch (hence the band name), just to name a few, which you can definitely hear in their music. Check out “The Undertaken” and keep your eyes peeled for Human Condition.

Smokey Joe and the Kid
Last week I received an email from The Procussions, a rap collective that I thoroughly enjoy. The “dynamic duo” wanted to send me an update to let me know that they were featured on the final track from Smokey Joe & The Kid’s new EP. The Game is a phenomenal EP with four tracks of blazing hip hop. My favorite songs on the EP are the last two, the other of which being “Stay Awake,” featuring Gift of Gab. This French duo known as Smokey Joe and The Kid somehow blend hip hop with swing and electronic, and pull it off quite well at that.

Formerly known as the Womack Family Band, I finally snapped to attention after hearing how many people were blown away by their performance at Brother’s Drake Meadery in Columbus. I had heard about these guys some time ago from the band Last of the Wildmen, who have shared the stage with The Womacks in the past. I sense the momentum beginning to build for this awesomely talented Americana/folk band. The vibe is a jazzy, chill mood. I love the vocals from both the guys and girl here. Very smooth. The band has an EP coming out July 5th this summer, but you can stream their entire most recent release below:
