Gemology – “Come Around”: Synthpop duo Gemology just put this this song which vaguely reminds me of 90s era bubble gum pop at first. Emphasis on the “vague” word, however – since the track leans more toward Beach House and less towards something you might find on a “Now That’s What I Call Music!” compilation. This is the sort of song I’d envision this duo opening a set with amid some sparse lighting.

But other than brevity, these two songs don’t have a lot in common. Relax to some jangly guitars today, you’ve probably earned it. Oh, and this is Hoops’ first ever music video so there’s that. If you haven’t figured out that we like this video and this write-up is my lame attempt at humor, I’m informing you now.
Slow Sugar – “Shotgun”: No joke, for a millisecond I thought I was listening to a new Lorde single, before common-sense kicked in and reminded me I clicked on this soundcloud link from a promo email. I can’t say that this song lends itself well to chilling out (like I have titled this piece) but it is certainly airy and fun, flipping quickly to a badass hook sure to get pulses racing in a sensual way.

A quick look at their tour dates shows that they are performing in Portland, Maine – and I think that would be a great setting to experience this sound live in. Moreso than my hometown of Columbus, I daresay.
Holy Wave – “Magic Landing”: Sadly, this might be the only El Paso band I know. The song heard in the video below lends itself well to surrealism and zoning out – or perhaps dozing off to surreal dreams? Most of my dreams are a little off kilter, and I can imagine this song blending together well with a bit of REM sleep.
