This quick ditty of an EP was advertised as a return to the straightforward rock we all love. This is mostly true.
Bad Cop is no frills garage rock and roll trio from Nashville with somewhat of a DIY sound. Or at least, what stereotypically comes to mind when I think “DIY.” Plenty of more polished sounding bands are doing it all themselves.
What impresses me is just how much this band is able to cram into songs between 2 and 3 minutes such that they still feel complete. “Get You Hi” has an “intro” (ha!) that stretches nearly half the length of the song – yet it feels just right. Jangly, crunchy guitars rule the sound here and in the balance of the EP.
Droney, reverb-y, and groovy all adeqautely describe what we’re dealing with, in my opinion. And that is with the guitars alone.
Yes! I was trying to figure out why the vibe of this EP felt so familiar. A second listen of “Wish You Well” brought my mind to The Hives. A band I discovered as a freshman in high school! Bad Cop loves their throwback sound and wild guitar solos, but adds another layer of instrumentation that I would not have appreciated back then.
Any more writing and I’ll just be pointlessly be rambling about this short but sweet EP. Check it out.
