Awê – What do you get when you combine Sigur Ros with a hint of metal? Something like this musical collaboration between friends Stepthen Scheidell and Subaas Gurung, I’d imagine. The compositions are just gorgeous. I’d say they can hold their own against some of their more new age-y counterparts. Look out, Yanni. There’s a duo that might one up you. But they won’t be a punchline if their music goes anywhere. The songs, while long, aren’t terribly repetitive. They often settle into a theme, but offer several slight variations of said theme. There’s also lots of shredding.

TOO MANY ZOOZ – Early last month I received an unlikely Facebook message from a relative of mine. Not knowing what to expect, I jumped when I saw a new artist to check out. The self-dubbed “brass house” trio have made a name for themselves in the New York City subway tunnels. Baritone saxophonist Leo Pellegrino lays down the foundation for their contagious sound, while trumpeter Matt Doe screeches as loud as seemingly possible and the “King of Sludge” bangs on his drum. TOO MANY ZOOZ is mind blowingly eccentric and yet such a fun listen as well. Already rapidly on the rise, the NYC-based trio will only get bigger.

A little while back I started following new Blitz DJ Hales, a personality known for her quotidian music picks, on my social media outlets. Earlier this week, the featured band on “Haleigh’s Dailies” was a German prog. group called eden circus. Their intricate musicianship and intense overtones are what really set them apart from any other rock band in the ever-so-saturated super genre.
