Belmont – aftermath

This is an angry LP and one that epitomises the state of the world. Anxiety takes centre stage too, bubbling and making its way to the front. Belmont is an act trying to nullify their pasts but they still creep up on them and become fixed on their minds. It’s more than a pop punk record, it’s a fighting chance, and the band has pushed the limits of their sound, and by doing so, has escaped from the norm. And every moment triggers intent from Belmont, as Aftermath becomes their significant battle-cry.

Churning out record after record, some bands do so miserably. Belmont seems to have honed their skills here, and the guitar parts sound fresh and daring, and Aftermath isn’t just a one dimensional throw of the dice, it actually has complexity and a clear message. The message points to fear and a fight for redemption. This fear also stems from world problems and personal trauma and drama.

The songs are loud and direct, featuring hard-hitting lyrics and fearlessness. The band scream, they growl, they nip at the music industry and they do not stand still, as their songs are not just offerings, they’re statements, chronicles of despair and anger. Pain Now is a song that sticks with this theme. It’s loud, it’s deeply rage fuelled, and the guitars break ground. 4am//Disappear doesn’t filter out, as the story keeps on giving, even though it is negatively spun. Guilt Trip is a pop punk thriller, with guitars galore and pulsating percussion, as well as demanding vocals. What I Lack develops an infectious riff, and is another well thought out song, and signifies optimism.

Belmont come at the world here. The angry tones exhilarate and are pieced together with range and velocity. Their statements are fiery.
