Black Honey is a band working while saluting the disenchanted. On this release, OK, they spearhead a revolutionary sound, proving they have what it takes to secure the top spot at the rock summit. Stylish guitar riffs intersect with those brooding vocals from lead singer Lzzy Bee Philips, and this EP does well to bombard the mind in a good way, sparking rebellious thoughts, and Philips impacts the world with her voice, one that breaks conventions, and these lyrics spell out an honest drive for redemption.
The band is outspoken, and that’s admirable. They connect to their fanbase on a different level, and they are a catalyst for the outcasts, because the band know how it feels to be lost in a world where greed overthrows honesty, and with boundless talent they have the tools to highlight this through their complete sound.
OK starts the EP off with weaved riffs and powerful percussion. Philips sings with purpose and intent, proving she’s fearless. The themes running through this song, depict struggle too. Up Against It has grooves, and Philips is singing again with vigour. She’s honest here, and happiness is on the brink.
Heavy starts with an invigorating riff and the song progresses into a full throttled chorus, and Philips sings about her debilitating mental health here, singling out hope as a dying thing. Out Of My Mind has punk undertones, and rock layers, pushing the written word to the extremes. Time is going uncomfortably fast, and this song is a true standout. That chorus is a blast.
Black Honey spearhead an EP worthy of incredible acclaim. Their sound is fresh and daring.
