The Switch – “Don’t Go to Revolver”: The first thing that comes to mind when hearing this song is “M83”. It might be the emphasis on synths or the high pitched male vocals. This song has my favorite kind of hook. The lyrics are a little awkward at times, but the melody and flow of the song makes up for this slight misstep. Besides, I have a feeling that dreamy whimsical rock is exactly what The Switch is going for.
…And the Hangnails – “Everybody’s Luck”: This emo-tinged track has a feel good rock and roll tone, but the hook is a matter of fact statement that “everybody’s luck runs out sometimes”. This is a first person lament that the frontman chooses to spin into a celebratory kind of therapy. Get your mosh on to this song and enjoy a party of the feels.

I finally checked them out…and lo and behold they have a new single out. Soulful groovy ambient rock is the name of this game. The song is overall very pleasant to listen to. Neither a ballad nor a rocker. Too loud to be easy listening, yet too quiet to blast with the windows down in the summertime. Let us know what you think of “If I Could Stay,” a love song for those exploring off the beaten path.
Clip Art – “Airborne Ranger”: This art rock (unintentional pun, I promise) band begins with a whoosh and caresses you with something that toes the line between Real Estate and something else entirely that’s treading psychedelic water. A less potent form of this vibe, though. I gave this single reviews article a title containing “cathartic” for a reason!

Synths that sound like they’re coming from the depths of some lagoon echo beneath a strong indie pop structure that’s in your face and begging you to move. “King” is available for mass consumption in early March.
