Galaxy Juice: I’m still a bit undecided on whether I can truly get behind this, but this works so well as background music I couldn’t ignore it. Can a djembe, saxophone, and synthesizer blend together for an ambient psychedelic trip? Have you ever listened to a band from Kuwait City? Have you ever looked up a band just because of a hashtag you saw on instagram? I did, and I found this.

This project out of Texas I found while surfing the hashtag #dreampop, although this isn’t exactly what first comes to mind when I think of this genre. Genres be darned anyway – they are somewhat just marketing jargon amiright? “Pearl” is the best song I found while exploring the record of the same name, which meanders among soft drumming, ethereal male and female vocals, and both acoustic and electric strumming. Sounds like an impossible genre, kinda like hip hop country. Well, if Nelly can use Tim McGraw in a big mid-00s hit, perhaps a member of Beats Antique can pull off a similar feat, albeit in different genre. To call it acoustic is still a stretch at times, but I dig the tribal, jangly riffage and raw no-frills production that juxtaposes the digital wanderings.
