It is funny how things have a way or working themselves out; Korby Lenker, who is a new name to most across the country, was a finding of mine on YouTube after endless hours of watching singer/songwriter original songs about a year ago. After falling in love with his music video for, “My Little Life”, and spending some time researching the Twin Falls, Idaho songwriter, it seems that over the last year I have seen his name popping up more and more around the music community. (Really be sure to check out the video, it’s full of some of Nashville’s best artists).
“Korby Lenker”, his full length and self titled album, released on March 25th, 2014 and I was lucky enough to get my hands on a hard copy. In most cases we divulge straight into the music, but some kudos are in line for Lenker with his unbelievable album artwork and design that are pieces of serious art in themselves. Yet what is even cooler is that what you see in the artwork is what you are going to hear in the music—different, wacky, funky, but most importantly the truth. Korby takes real, truthful, and relatable lyrics, gives them a catchy melody and simple instrumentation, and then produces them into whichever genre he chooses. This album is the perfect example of what I preach—versatility in an album; no two songs on here sound the same and you’ll hear just about every genre with an acoustic and pop spin.
[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JE5BNx9MV&w=450&h=297]My favorite songs on the album are undoubtedly “My Little Life”, “Here We Go Again”, “Heart of Gold”, and “Lovers Are Fools”—which has become one of my favorite songs I have ever heard. Ladies and gentlemen, Korby Lenker is not messing around; this album is clearly many years in the working and can be shown in the music, so do not be surprised when his name begins popping up more and more over the next year!
