Last week’s Relevant Discoveries – a trifecta from Topher

By Ryan G

Lots of recommendations from Topher Parks:

SAUL is an up and coming progressive rock trio from Sioux City, Iowa. I discovered them a few months back with their song “The Touching of Parallels,” a Loudwire premiere in February. Since then I’ve discovered quite a few other artists, but I somehow keep coming back to this song, which happens to be the title track from their debut EP. The Touching of Parallels is available for purchase wherever you buy your digital music.

Big Data – Lately my local rock station has become more like alternative radio and less like a rock station. I’ve had mixed feelings about this for quite some time now, but I have discovered some really cool alternative artists because of the station. Take Big Data for example, whose song “Dangerous” came on the air last week and had me hooked from the very beginning. “Dangerous” features Joywave, and the infectious bassline is what makes the track so great for me. I’m definitely looking forward to hearing more from Big Data!

Socionic is an alternative metal group based out of Los Angeles, whom I discovered completely by chance. I believe it was a Facebook ad about them that I saw, in addition to a comparison with Tool after my initial “click,” which is what really caught my attention. Their Identity EP released towards the end of 2012, but the band is currently in the slow (but ever-so sure) writing process. Be on the lookout for new music from these guys sometime next year, but for now you can check out their latest single, “Epiphany,” right here.
