This is a sobering EP from a forward-thinking band from Waterville, Ohio, a band taking folk music to the heights and into the souls of the people who bask in such progressive music. Northern Lights is a prized possession for this band and its followers, and it has been painstakingly worked upon, conducted with sheer control and measure, talent and purpose. There’s also elegant moments here, and Oliver Hazard dazzle, bridging the gap, showcasing their fight and resilience, through epic acoustic flair.
Intelligence grabs the imagination here too, and it’s not only music for the folk fanatics, it’s music for the disenchanted travellers who try to grasp something good, who try to support the weight of their own lives. Properly majestic, the music flows smoothly, and it blossoms with every chime. These musicians also know how to look within themselves, piecing together lyrics which tell stories, which alert the dreams in us.
Northern Lights starts the EP off with atmospherics. It sways into a fight for love and forgiveness. The acoustic flair is desirable, and this band conquer here. Two X Four is another acoustic song drenched in melancholy, and the vocals are calm, but purposeful. Every sound has its place, and this is dreamy. Use Me Up yet again hits the emotions, describing the ways of life, the heartache, the prolonging of pain. It’s another finely tuned score by such an able band of music crusaders, who want to piece together their lives again.
Oliver Hazard has put out a record which astounds and is a poignant stab a folk, and is a piece of original artistry.
