Topher Parks recommends: Gdansk

Gdansk is an ambient alternative quartet based out of Ontario. I stumbled upon these guys by accident, but I’m definitely glad I gave them a shot. Their music has a trippy feel to it along with the electronic undertones. “Mariner’s Cross” is the opening track from their new release, EP 1, which is available on their BandCamp as a free download.

Ryan Getz recommends: Painted Palms and Glass Animals

Painted Palms is a synth pop/rock group that frankly I’ve been meaning to check out since Tuned Up started getting press emails about them. Reverb-laced vocals and psychedelic riffs give the project a throwback feel with a modern twist. Right now they are touring with fellow artsy artist SAINT PEPSI and they also just got announced as an artist for San Francisco’s Treasure Island festival alongside Alt-J, OutKast, Massive Attack, and many more. Groovy.

As a knee jerk response, I’m wary of Facebook ads for artists. However, when a friend recommended I check out their single “Gooey”, I had to jump on the Glass Animals train. If you live in Ohio you might know Way Yes. I’d describe Glass Animals as a more accessible, more introspective Way Yes. The tunes are organic, and at once earthy and otherworldly. Glass Animals is a paradox I’m glad to have found.
