Ryan’s picks:
Ok, so the first two don’t really have new music out yet, but I love the main projects of the creators in question, so can we really go wrong?
Sleepwave is the long awaited new project from Underoath frontman Spencer Chamberlain. While his bandmates are slowing things down following the end of the band Spencer has made it abundantly clear from the get go he doesn’t intend to. The genre is to be revealed, but I’m excited. Chamberlain is collaborating with Stephen Bowman on the project, and the live band will feature his brother Phil Chamberlain (To Speak of Wolves, Sullivan) on drums. Woo!
House of Heroes frontman Tim Skipper married singer Stephanie Smith after relocating to Nashville from his native Columbus, so it really shouldnt be a surprise that the pair is forming their own, new project. The acoustic, stripped down feel promises to be one of intrigue and strong project to supplement Skipper’s main gig.

The band doesn’t reinvent anything, but if their single “Coming Up” is any indication, they should have good career ahead of them. Airplay on RadioU and more recently in Australia seems to be helping them! Their sound is sugary and eclectic, in a totally accessible and non cheesy way.

Maranatha is easily one of the best sludge bands to come out in a while. Picture mixing The Chariot’s noisy hardcore with High on Fire’s slow sludge. The end result is brutal without being incredibly fast. It’s unfortunate that they won’t get much attention in part due to their lack of shows.
