vukovi – i exist

Scottish act Vukovi has opened up their souls and their EP I Exist demonstrates aching sorrow through bitter lyrics. The band has grown into an elite outfit with remarkable ideas too, and while hurting, they don’t shade their grievances and points of view.

I Exist tears up the rule book and lyrics describe mental instability and the depths of broken love. Not for the gentle listener, the EP has six songs pushing the limits of sounds and wordplay, even if the poetic wonderment is a little controversial.

Vukovi don’t do things gently. They never have anyway and this record shows that they’re standing firmly on the pedestal with attitude. Their music does not hit one-dimensional notes either and it definitely isn’t half-hearted. Hope seems wayward on I Exist too. Pessimism is a common feature, and the light seems dim at times, though, the band don’t surrender to the darkness.

I Exist starts the record off. The themes are razor sharp and the guitar parts are ferocious. The lyrics command attention, and they tell tales of hopelessness.

Lasso is a fuzzy inclusion, with metal like guitars and strong lyrical content. The vocals rise and the theme carries on. Rage ensues. Hurt slows down the energy a little, though the song develops into a rock contribution. The chorus rapidly changes the arrangements. Slo is technical and has that techno buzz. It provides a different sound and concept. It also evolves with intricate melodies.

Vukovi is flying the flag for Scottish rock and though they’re broken inside, the music is far from fading out.
