EDITORS – AN END HAS A START: A ROCK TRIUMPH THAT PAVED THE WAY

When music hits you like a hit of hysteria, you know you’re under its safe spell, fitting into its gripping story line, that sonic artistry. Music has the power to make us sense the world too, and it is a savior for many. When English band Editors released their seminal record, An End Has A Start in 2007, they grew into a powerhouse act, solidifying themselves as ones to watch, and through their lyrical forays, they impacted many lives.

An End Has A Start was something to behold for the rock fan, a collection of songs that were also a tonic for many disenchanted people who wanted a break from the fast-paced life, the chaos and the misery. The record helped nullify all that, and it hit sonically and lyrically, giving listeners both sides.

Lead singer Tom Smith’s remarkable vocals echoed and hit deeply throughout the record, and those intricate, groove-laden instrumentals powered on, making the album such a colossal success. Brimming with hooks too, the record paved the way for many acts waiting to bloom, and Editors elevated rapidly.

From the beginning of the record, the chords sprang into action, and those unique vocals from Smith redefined rock music. It’s difficult to describe Smith’s vocals, as they’re so different, layered even. The man on the microphone excelled, as well as his band-mates, keeping their music original.

Opening single Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors blew minds. A deep, cutting track that showed the band’s abilities, breaking down barriers in the rock scene. Those commanding drums and those sombre vocals interweaved, lashing, but not wasting any part of a melodic, memorable start.

The song An End Has A Start had such an aura, as the riffs and tones expertly came together, pushing the album to its limitations. Smith yet again sang gloriously, letting his voice carry the deep instrumentals forward, and he cemented his place in the limelight.

Moving single Push Your Head Towards The Air pushed the band through the motions. Such poetic wordplay and lifting instrumentals drew in many, gifting them a song which was layered but also emotionally connecting. Smith sang with subtle intentions, until the track turned into a melodic heart puller, and the production was immaculate.

Editors as a band found themselves in the mainstream sector with An End Has A Start, though they embraced it. The album has given many music fans something to confide in too, which is more significant.
