The Heavy Hours – Wildfire

With utter determination and sincerity running through their veins, Ohio band The Heavy Hours do not blast open new horizons but take their time securing their stage. Their music is also full of heart and soul, breaking barriers with truthful songwriting. And when they play, they seem to enforce the type of honesty that some bands do not spread. This honesty through expansive, poignant lyricism creates a spark, a flicker of brilliance.

The act empty their souls with Wildfire. It’s a collection of songs you’d hear in rooms where conversations become relevant, where lovers intertwine, and callous hearts turn into beautiful, beating muscles. Though sadness interferes, without impacting the record in any shape or form, it increases the realism and intensity.

These musicians know how to play and create diligently. Wildfire means so much to this band too, and it means that they can inspire the musical onslaught. The disenfranchised will also cling onto every riff and every word as they walk through streets of rage, where fights and fires become one.

The EP starts with “Wildfire.” It is a louder offering, creating riff infused drama. The vocals are supreme, and it all melds well. Love is explored. “Ache” is sublime, conveying the effects of losing the will and drive. It’s a ballad, connecting the dots of love. Those vocals raise the volume and this piano laced song builds emotion. “Desperate Days” is another slow, acoustic driven masterclass. The vocals again are stupendously tuned.

The Heavy Hours commit to their own world. Such talent and such drive keep them going, such honesty keeps them grounded.
