Rid of Me – Traveling

Traveling is the debut full-length from Philadelphia punk and noise rockers Rid of Me. The group has an extensive list of other projects their members contribute to, some of which being Fight Amp, Soul Glo and Low Dose. On this debut LP, we are treated to ten tracks of passionate, angry, and anthemic rock tracks that are healthily drenched in the aesthetic of the 90s. With melodic guitar leads, deep bass tones, and ultra raw vocals, Rid of Me is carving a name for themselves in the Northeast punk scene.

The track sequencing for the album played almost like a film. Moody tracks “Myself” and “23” kick the record off before getting progressively heavier and more intense. Quieter intros and verses all of sudden explode into shouted catchy choruses and pounding instrumentation. Tracks like “Spilling” and “Broke Shit” stand out on the back half of the LP as more punchy, straightforward and angry cuts. “Pit” is an awesome cut that would’ve fit perfectly on MTV or 90s alt radio. The pissed off and anthemic “Dealing” then perfectly closes the record out.

Another aspect to point attention to is vocalist Itarya Rosenberg’s lyricism. Lyricism on the record often deals with emotions regarding loneliness, anger, and a general feeling of being fed up. But even with all these emotions, the lyrics are approached from a very level-headed and conscious view: pointing out flaws in the self and the world around them from a realistic standpoint that is aware of the frailty of life itself. Whether it be a deeply personal issue, sex, or fake activists, Rosenberg is going to dissect it from a vantage point of confidence and security.
