Tuned In-Spin These New Releases Feb. 17th

The new releases for this week were a little sparse, especially in the mainstream front (unless you’re a huge Skrillex fan). But what it lacks in quantity it more than made up for in quality. Read on for our favorite Singles and Albums of the Week, as we dive into post-hardcore, hip-hop, psychedelia, and even a little classic rock.

SPACESHIPS (Feat. Holy Fawn)-“Spillt”

Post-Hardcore, Post-Metal, Shoegaze, Dream-core, difficult to classify Indiana band SPACESHIPS have released their first single from their forthcoming album. “Spillt” is heavy and ethereal, beckoning listeners to either bang their heads or sit under a tree by a pond journaling. Though the track’s length is substantial upon first look, it passes quickly as the music draws you into a timeless space. “Spillt” features exceptional guest vocals from Ryan Osterman of Holy Fawn who manages to elevate Nat Fitzgerald’s vocals without either overtaking them or fading so far into the background as to be inconsequential. If this is any indication of the quality of SPACESHIPS latest project, fans of the post genre have a lot to get excited about.

Black Thought x El Michels Affair-“That Girl”

Coming off of last year’s outstanding collaboration with Danger Mouse, emcee and lyrical virtuoso Black Thought has released his second single from the upcoming album with El Michels Affair. For fans of instrumental hip-hop, this is a dream duo, as El Michels Affair has dropped some legendary covers of Wu-Tang Clan bangers. I’m expecting nothing but excellence from this project, proving that Black Thought deserves serious consideration for the GOAT title.

Avey Tare7s

Animal Collective founder and multi-instrumentalist Avey Tare has released another set of artistic, psychedelic explorations into pop-songwriting. If you’ve listened to either AC or Tare’s output thus far, you know to expect something interesting, challenging, and joyful. My children were digging the vibes as we listened to some tracks while getting dressed this morning, and I’m looking forward to a full listen through.

Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs PigsLand of Sleeper

If you’re morning the impending demise of epic rock band The Sword, fear not, Britain’s Pigs Pigs Pigs PIgs Pigs Pigs Pigs are more than capable of filling their shoes. Playing the same kind of stoner metal influenced classic rock, Pigs (x7) are only getting better at what they do on their fourth album, Land of Sleeper. And the scene seems to be picking up on the group as they are second level headliners for the Massive UK metal festival ArcTangent this year. Don’t sleep on this good time of a band that makes you want to roll down the window and throw up the horns.
